In the heart of Colorado’s Sawatch Range, Knapp Ranch is propelled by a vision to preserve the land, water, and wildlife in a rustic and timeless setting.
Betsy and Bud Knapp, a dynamic and entrepreneurial couple with active businesses on both coasts, followed their dreams to the Vail Valley. In the early 1990’s, they purchased the Knapp Ranch land, fulfilling a lifelong desire to build a home that reflected their interests in history, culture and art, in an environment where they could both test their ideas about land management and grow their own food. As the publishers of Architectural Digest, Bon Appetit, and a host of lifestyle-oriented coffee-table books, the Knapp’s made it their business to empower experts, including designers, craftspeople, and purveyors of specialty products, to share their secrets of success so that readers all over the world could feel confident in creating their own projects, regardless of scale. The stories contained in these publications often focused on the setting and its influence on lifestyle, and the importance of the choice of location defining a point of view about authenticity and quality. This business model translated directly to the design and construction of the Knapp’s own home, and to the development of the agricultural enterprises that now exist at Knapp Ranch.
